Yampa River Scorecard Project
I developed the branding and a direct mail piece for Friends of the Yampa's Yampa River Scorecard Project. Friends of the Yampa is a group whose mission is to protect and enhance the environmental and recreational integrity of the Yampa River and its tributaries through stewardship, advocacy, education and partnerships. The Scorecard Project is a new pillar of their organization and they wanted to create a logo and brand around this new program. A goal of the project is to educate the communities on why they should care about the river and its health no matter how the individual uses the river, whether that be for recreational or agricultural purposes. They want to speak to the different communities within the Yampa Valley and take a simplified approach to educate their audience. The logo and branding represent the different usages and assets of the Yampa River as well as signifying that this project in its simplest form is a way of grading the health of the river.
About the Brand
The concept of the logo was to represent the core elements of the Yampa River - agriculture and recreational usages, river health, and the fish habitat while also indicating that the project would be a way to score the health of different aspects of the river. This blocked and modular design lended itself to incorporating all the required elements in a way that was modern and eye-catching. The colors were selected to be easily broken out into a grading system. The designs within the logo were also able to be adpated into larger designs that are fluid and representative of the complexity of all their is to take into account when scoring river health.
